The Scientific Magic Show
MAGIC TRICKS - SCIENCE
FACTS
THE
PROGRAM'S CONCEPT AND MISSION
The
Scientific Magic Show
is
an academically tested and proven method for giving
audience members a chance to learn how magic works and instilling
audience
members with a keen desire to learn about science.
The concept behind the show is that almost
every person enjoys magic.
Not
only
do young people like magic shows; they also want to know “How does it work?”
Once given the secrets and instructions, many students will practice and perform the tricks to entertain family and friends.
The Scientific Magic Show (a university developed program) consists of laboratory
demonstrations and experiments presented as magic tricks. The audience, students and teachers alike,
is shown how to construct and perform the tricks. The materials needed to make the tricks are generally found in the home.
Herein lies “THE REAL MAGIC” secret.
As stated, the tricks in the show are based upon scientific principles.
As the spectators learn the magic secrets, they learn the scientific concepts that make the tricks possible.
Put in another way, there is as an added, unexpected bonus of seeing and finding out about magic for the students
(what they view as a leisure time activity). The audience learns that science is useful, fun, exciting and worth studying.
The tricks in the show are selected from some of Bob Friedhoffer’s 35+ award winning books, most of them to be
found in public libraries. When time permits, there is a question and answer session at the end of each performance.
This portion of the presentation is often used by teachers and librarians as a “meet the author” session.
